Sandhill Cranes

About an hour north of Portland lie the Belgrade Lakes.  Sandhill Cranes have been coming here for over a decade to nest.  This was my first time getting any decent looks at the magnificent birds.   I spent over an hour photographing a group of 6 birds as they flew from one patch to another, sometimes singly, sometimes as a group.

  1. I met a guy that grew up in Portland yesterday and he was talking about these cranes. Now he is the owner of the Okracoke Tribune. Has a Trumpeter Swan still hanging around in the marsh on Okracoke. It's a small world.
