Thick-billed Murre

I was out surfing on my SUP at Higgins when I noticed an alcid near a raft of Long-tailed ducks about a hundred yards away.  As I paddled closer, I saw it was a Murre.  I managed to get very close to this one, paddling slowly alongside it for a few minutes.  It seemed unperturbed, but healthy. I took a wave in and rushed to get changed and grabbed my camera.  I relocated the bird at the far end of the beach heading back my way.  The tide was ebbing and I walked out as far as I could in my boots, and was lucky to have the bird swim by right in the wave zone.
Notice how its legs come straight out the back end, with the top of its legs out of the water at all times.  I imagine a Murre would walk very much like a penguin.
